To enter the Sparrow nest

To enter the Sparrow nest,
With the intent to kill a Sparrow,
Is to put one's life in Danger,

There is a saying

It is said,
You may not like me,
But you will respect me,

Well,
Others may not like the Sparrow,
But they don't have to,

But they will respect the Sparrow,
If not, it will be their downfall,
As we know bushido as well as any Lion or the Tao as well as any Phoenix

The Dragon and the Phoenix monks

The Dragon monks,
Have their tattoes,
The Phoenix monks,
Have their riddles, and mysteries,
The Sparrow monks,
Have their patches,

The Armor and the Weapons of the Sparrow champion

Personally, I think a kevlar karate gi would be most apprioprate.  With the Sparrow mon back patch on the back.  Though a Lion patch by the heart, A turtle patch on the chest, a forest dragon patch on the shoulder, a Bull patch on the other shoulders.  Though it might be best to have it like a Demo gi with no lapel.  Though it might be best not to have any sleeves.  With a black belt to hold on the pants.

Also the Earth Triplets, could be specially made to fit his hands.  As it is best for Sai's to be the length of one's forearms.  Also I find regular sai's not big enough for my hands.

Though I think that the Sparrow daimyo should wear kung fu bracelets on his arms.  This is as much as offense as it is for defense.

Also I think it best for the Sparrow Daimyo to carry a poisen kit in his armor.  That way, if anyone should attempt to posion him, he would have an antidote ready.  It is known that some other clans use these tactics.

Before a battle

Before a battle,
It is best,
To eat as little as possible,

A full belly,
Makes one slow,
Makes one,
Sleepy,

Also before going into battle,
One should pray,
Personally, my favorite is the creator,

Sparrow fighting doctrine

If the Sparrow are attacked,
It would be best to raid the enemies food supplies,
it would be better then killing twenty of their men,
As then they're bushi would be all the more weaker in battle,
Perhaps sharing it with our allies,
After all it most disasterous lost of face for our enemies,
To have others dine on their rations,
Perhaps if they get hungry enough,
They will go back to their own lands,

If I truly was your brother

The Akodo have a saying,
Every Dochi your brother,
If you truly were ever my brother Jamison,
Why does eyes only go skin deep,

If you were truly ever my brother Jamison,
Where were you when others sought my life?
Where were you when I was not given a fair trial?
Where were you when I was struggling to survive?

If I was ever truly your brother Jamison,
Could not your family make arrangements to have me trained?
If not in the Akodo or Matsu schools,
Perhaps in the Kitsu or Ikoma schools,

If truly I was ever your brother,
You would be happy that the honor the Sparrow have given to the Akodo,
If truly I was ever your brother,
You would have come talked to me when I was betrayed by the Scorpion,

If truly I was ever your brother,
You would see that an alliance with the Sparrow is a upset for the Lion,
That an alliance with the Sparrow brings honor to the Lion,
That truly this is in the best interests of the Lion,

Perhaps it would be good for the Twelve Sparrows

One thing is that perhaps it would be good for the Twelve Sparrows, to divide up into two groups.  Half on duty twelve hours a day.  The other six on duty when they are not.

In this way, then there would always be some on duty.  Also in emmergencies there could be summoned to aid.  This would also include training alongside the Sparrow Daimyo.

Another thing is perhaps it would be good if there was someone who knew the level three sparrow kenjutsu technique amongst them.  So that they could help develop a fourth level, and fifth level for the Suzume Bushi school.  Then this person could take these techniques back to the Suzume, and teach them.  Then another bush could be sent to the Sparrow Daimyo.

Perhaps it would be best if I lived amongst the Yotsu

Perhaps it would be best if I lived with the Yotsu, and aided them with the Vindicators.  They should be able to use the help.  Also then the Sparrow would have less mouths to feed.

Also the Yotsu, myself, and the Twelve Sparrow could then train together.  It would help in developing the Sparrow style.  Personally, perhaps all members of the Sparrow can should learn the Kenjutsu and the Sling.  As it could be the unifying theme for all the members of the Clan.

Another thing is I would like to see the Sparrow Monks like the Dragon monks.  However, instead of Tattoes get special patches.  They could put on productions of stories.

The Sparrows: The Peace Keepers

Perhaps should become known as the Peace Keepers. After all the function of the Sparrow is to keep the Crane and the Crab from fighting. I think it's in the best interests of the Crab to promote peace, as I could see the Sparrow fighting with the Crab in any conflict.
It would be good to have an alliance with the Lion. Though, if that is not possible it would be a shame. I would like to see good relations with them.
Also I would like to see good relations with the Dragon Clan. As I respect the wisdom of their monks. They also see us as well.

Another thing is that, many times the animals that stay in one environment are invaded my animals from other environments. I think it best if the Sparrow worked along other Clan's peasants. As they're is no shame in honest labor.

Food supply

One thing people might be wondering, is how we are going to feed these people?  One thing is that if the Suzume lands could be increased in fertility by using adding organic matter, they might be able to be more productive.  I think using Japanese Organic Agriculture could improve the fertility of the soil.

Another thing is that, other lands may be more productive then the Suzume's.  Where the Suzume's may teach their Kenjutsu to the other families.  This way it will give them another source of income besides farming.  Then the other families can perhaps could give the Suzume produce for their lessons.  I know teachers in Okinawa got vegetables.

Also perhaps if the Sparrow could pursue aquaculture, then that would also aid in the food production.  As this would be another source of food.  It would be best to have multiple food sources.  As if one should fail then atleast there would be another.

I dont' want bodyguards

One thing is I don't want body guards.  The thing is that I can't be in all places at once.  I think it be best for the Sparrow to split up into small groups while they serving in other lands.

It would be good for the Sparrow Daimyo to train in Sparrow Kenjutsu.  After all if he is to lead the Clan he ought to know they fighting techniques.  After all what example would that set.  Perhaps the Daimyo could even improve the style.  For example, perhaps together they could come up with some forms for the Sparrow Bushi.  Sparrow clan has Crane roots, so that influence should be apparent.  Though, perhaps some Eagle Claw might be good as well.  I would like to see different weapons utilitized in forms, so that a Sparrow learns more than one weapon.

Also he could work with the Shugendo.  As the Sparrow are not known for their Shugendo.  Perhaps they could exchange knowledge.  This might form the basis of a study group.  Which someday might form a Sparrow Shugendo School.

Though the Daimyo of the Sparrow would be willing to give the Suzume family the rights to his life story.  These rights have been offered several million dollars.  So this ought to be more then enough to provide for the needs of twelve men.

Justice is blind

Justice is often seen as a lady with a blindfold holding scales.  This symbols that justice is blind.  Usually whoever put's the most money on the scales wins.

I used to think, that those who committed crimes would be brought to justice.  I don't know if I still believe that.  It seems that those who have committed crimes against me are getting off scot free.

It's seems the more and more that the color of justice is green.  That those with the most money usually win.  Therefore, I am willing to spend every cent of the money I get on my life's story to that end.  I have been offered in the millions for these rights.

How not to spread the Sparrow to thin

I think all Sparrows bush should share the experience of fighting on the kaiu wall or infront of it.  Let the Crab determine where they want their forces.  They may want the Tsi with there own smiths if they join.  Or they may want the Yotsu with the Hiruma if they join.  Or the Suzume behind a wall hurling stones.  Though all should share the experience so that all have of serving with the Crab.

After which, then they will be determined where they will be stationed at.  We ought to send out small groups to each alliance.  It would be better to send few excellant bushi then a many not so good ones.  If this requires more training then it might be better then sending people who are not prepared.  As they're performance will be representing not only themselves but the clan as well.  Though I think the Tsi's should return to their forges, as their talents will be needed there.  Also perhaps the Yotsu to defend the weak and train the Ronin who have joined the Vindicaters.

Then when they return to the Sparrow Lands to stay, they will be all the more experienced.  They will be more knowledgeable.  They will have seen the more of what life is like outside the lands.

Perhaps an order could be founded to guard the Golden Plains.  Also they could give guidence to Sparrow serving in other lands.  As this would be made up of the more experienced members of the clan.

If the Sparrow had an ancestral weapon

If the Sparrow had an ancestral weapon I think it would be the Sai.  Or rather three sai's.  Perhaps they could be called the (My last name in Japanese)  Triplets.  As you would want one for throwing.

A sai after all is a worn down plowshare.  As the Sparrow are farmers, it would be the perfect weapon to represent them.  Also it can be used as a fishmonger as well.

Molding a cohesive fighting force

One thing with all these Ronin groups is that the real tough part is molding them into a cohesive fighting force.  I think this can be done if Bushi study Sparrow Bushi Techniques.  After they earn their first rank then they could study in a different school.  It could be called the Suzume Bushi School.

Although, I do not know where it should be located.  As if it was located in Sparrow lands it might have a supply problem.  Though food could be brought in from lands that the former ronin who have become Sparrow control.  Also there would be more qualified instructors in the Sparrow lands.  Perhaps on the village of Kudo.  Though perhaps an exchange could be had.  Sparrow teachers could go to the new Sparrow's to teach.  While others come to the Sparrow lands to study from the Suzume.  This way there wouldn't be as much of a logistic's problem.

Though perhaps changes might be need to be made to the curriculum.  For example, perhaps teaching them skills they will need to know with the Hiruma.  If a candiate is not ready to participate they should be held back till next year.

Right now the Sparrow do not have a Shugendo School.  Though I think it's best that the Sparrow Shugendo train with the Fox.  I think it would be good for us to setup our own for Shugendo school eventually.  As I have mentioned this in previous posts.  Perhaps call the school the (My last name in Japanese) Shugendo School.

I think it might be best for each Sparrow to be either a Bushi or a Shugendo, then if they choose to study in a Courtier school.  Then if a Sparrow chooses they could study in a Courtier school such as the Tortoise Courtier school.  That way, if they are attacked they will be able to defend themselves.  Also being spread out we cannot count on safety of a being behind a border.  Though I would like to see greater emphasis on higher skills then the Tortiose employ.  Though I say this of the Tortiose, they do they're duty, though not a glorious one, they fulfill their purpose.

For example, I would like to see our courtiers tell a greater emphasis on storytelling then other skills.  As this is the Sparrow are the best Story Tellers of all the clans.  Therefore, our courtiers should therefore emphasis story telling.  Others might find our stories more palettable if they were put to music.  However, care should be taken that they should always educate as much as they entertain.  In this way, they would be more then just educators.  Though they can do this while they do their other duties such as making sure their is an adequate food supply for the Sparrow Schools.  For example, a story of the Battle between the Scorpion, and the Three minor clans might be a particular favorite or the forming of the Sparrow clan.

Though I would really like to see an Order similiar to the Tattooed orders of the Dragon, or of the Phoenix.  As we know the Tao as well as any Phoenix.  They could fulfill similiar role in our clan as well.  This could be made up of retired bushi.

Perhaps it would be good for the Sparrow to rotate from different posts.  That way, they would learn could learn from different styles.  For instance, if they serve eight years in one land then they might want to experience a different land.  Also it maybe good to seperate people.  This way they will learn to work together.  It may be well to train with the unit's they are stationed with.  This would add the ability to work together if the need should arise to defend their station.  That is what they are there for.

Also it may be best to rotate between families land in the Sparrow Lands.  For instance, when a young couple has children, perhaps it might be better for them to farm in the Sparrow lands.  Then once the children are raised to have a different family take over the farm.  As this let the children have a grow up in once place rather then moving every so often.

Fly under the radar

It is best for the Sparrow,
To fly under the radar,
To not attract attention,
That way it we gain less enemies that way,

A clarification

When I was younger, I was quite playful.  This may have led to some misunderstandings.  However, when I was younger I didn't mind if people tried to kill me.  It is said that having a child, doesn't change you, it changes everything about you.

So if I DO have a daughter somewhere, then I can't be going getting myself killed.  As what will happen to her without me.  Now that I have a child I have to think about her as well.  I have responsibilities now.

Another thing is that the Sparrow choosing me to be their Daimyo, they are looking to me for leadership.  For their sake I can't get myself killed, just because I like playing around.  Afterall, I have people I must look after.

As such I think she should be trained with the Kitsu.  As I have said before, she would be treated better with them then I was.  Also she will be able to receive training in her gift.  Perhaps in time she will be able to come to Sparrow Lands and aid in the development of the Sparrow Shungendo School.

The other point I would like to clarify is that I do not want to turn the Sparrow Clan into a bunch of mercenaries.  A mercenary fights for money.  Fighting alongside your allies that you have a treaty to aid is a different matter entirely.  So I think this should be no mistake in this point.

Another point I would like to make is that, the Sparrow Clan's duty is too guard the Golden Plains, and keep the peace between the Crab and Crane.  Therefore, even if they all could move up to where I am, that would leave the Golden Plains vulnerable.  Also who is to say the Crab and Crane wouldn't fight with each other again?  So they must stay where they are for now.

Though Twelve Sparrow arent' enough to be missed.  Indeed, it may make things easier for them.  As the Sparrow Lands are less fertile then others.

My Vision for the Sparrow Lands

My vision for the Sparrow lands is to become a Neo Camelot.  A place where justices and fairness prevail.  A place where people are not judged by the color of their skin, only be their deeds.  A place where all are treated fairly even the lowest of the low.

Though with increased prosperity will come the need for increased security.  Alliances with the Lion, Mantis, Crab and other clans may prove useful.  Though we should not rely on them for our security.  We must ever be vigilent.  That is why we must have our own schools.  So that we can train in how to defend not only ourselves but our lands as well.

One thing though is that the soil is not as fertile as other lands.  In time this could be improved by aiding organic matter.  Though, it may be more useful as a school then as farmland.  Though I think it might best to have buildings underground.  Then it may be necessary to have food brought from other areas to feed students from other lands.  Perhaps this can be part of the treaty.

Another thing is that pollutating insects must be protected.  There are ways to encourage and promote their health.  There are too few of them left as it is.  If they die what will pollunate our crops?

Dog and his gang are now criminals

I am also going to declare Dog the Bounty Hunter criminals as well.  As the Leader of the Sparrow clan, it is my right.  As such I will use it.

I plan on giving the right to my life to the Suzume family.  This ought to be more then enough to pay for any fee's the Tsurachi family require.  As I have been offered millions of dollars for them.

One thing that burdens my heart

One thing that burdens my heart,
Is that I'm not strong enough to protect,
My own people,

So I will leave with the Sparrow Twelve,
I shall pack up my things and go to my Lady,
But I will never forget who I am,
Or where I cam from,

I will train, and become stronger,
Someday I will be strong enough to protect my people,
Then I shall return,
But I will leave with for my people's sake now,
When the Sparrow Twelve come to escort me,
Though I think we will need a permit,

Why I made the declaration

I have not come to the decision to declare those who have sought my life criminals easily.  But if they do not seek treatment, for their condition then give me no choice.  They kill those who are innocent.
This cannot be allowed to continue.

It is said Lions laying down with Lambs will be shorn with them.  Therefore, I will not sit by and allow my people to die.  As the Leader of the Sparrow I have the right to declare anyone a criminal.  I choose to use this right to protect my people.  I cannot allow this to continue in good conscious.

I do not fight for myself.  But my people, if I die, who will speak for those who have died?  They are breaking the law, therefore they must be treated like criminals.  They have hid behind diplomatic immunity, so we should to.

The Tsurachi family can have their bounty fee out of the confiscated property.  What ever is left should be given to the Suzume family.  As it is a Leader's job to look out for his followers.

Though no one should be killed that is innocent.  Let the Tsurachi's take great care in they're work.  So that no innocent blood should be spilled.  I do not believe anyone should be killed because they are of a certain tribe or nation.  But those who have tried to sough my life must be brought to justice so that it doesn't happen again.

The Declaration from the Leader of the Sparrows

All those who sought my life,
All those who denied me justice,
All those who framed me,
All those who did nothing, are just as guilty,
Are criminals,

As such the Tsurachi should hunt them,
Then the Sparrow should confiscate their land, and their possions,
And pay the Tsurachi's out of it,
As this is what they wanted to do to me,
So should be done to them,

One thing with the Sparrow

One thing with the Sparrow is that they have never sought to enlarge their territory.  If they serve other clans in their territory then they could be leased estates while they serve that clan.  In this way the Sparrow would not be expanding their territories into other clans.

If Ronin join the Sparrow, then they should bring their lands with them.  As it is there land.  I think the Yotsu, and the Tsi would make good additions to the Sparrow ranks if they ever sought to join the Sparrow.  By doing so they would throw off their status as Ronin.  Also the Sparrow would grow larger.

One thing is that in nature that the larger animals usually prey on the smaller ones.  For example, a Eagle is usually larger then an osprey.  So the larger the clan the less likely other animals would be likely to attack them.

Though perhaps instead of going through Crane territory to reach the Sparrow lands, the Tsi and Yotsu, could take boats to Kudo.  For example, if the Tsi send weapons to the Suzume, it might be best to do it this way.  Or if a Yotsu or Tsi wishes to learn the Sparrow Kenjutsu.  Perhaps it would be best to make a Treaty with the Turtles for safe passage between lands.  As they know the sea's better.  Also when we have our own fishing fleet we could aid them if they needed help on the seas.  Though, I would like to see good relations with the Mantis as well.  As the Sparrow has had a good relations with the Wasp.  So I would like us to extend this to the all the Mantis as well.

Another thing is that if the Sparrow had a fishing fleet they could use it to help clean up oil spills.  Large companies that created the mess could then pay the Sparrow for helping to clean it up.  This could help provide money for the Sparrow coffers.  Also another way the Sparrow could make money is by working with local governments to restock their fisheries.  This would provide another source of income to the Sparrow.

House of Pop

Perhaps the Sparrow could give some land to Lady Gaga to build a Theater on for her performances.  Visitors to her theater would bring much needed money to the Sparrow Lands.  So it would be a way for the Sparrow to economically develop their land.  Though it might be wise to station some more bushi here as they could handle the security for the theater.  Also they could make art for her productions.

Also Lady Gaga could have a privat recording studio here.  So she could record her songs in private.  Then there would be less chance of them being leaked.

computers

While the Lands of the Sparrow,
May not lend themselves to parchment,
They dryness does lend itself to silicon,
Though the air filters may need to be clecked,
and cleaned more often then normal,

Sparrow returning from the Hiruma

A Sparrow should take care to purify themselves,
Before returning to Sparrow Lands,
Especially from the Lands of the Hiruma,

Perhaps taking a salt bath the day before,
Perhaps eating scant food,
So that they may enter the lands of the Sparrow,
Purified of any taint,

Sparrow Shungendo

I think that Sparrow Shugendo should train with knives, sticks, and staffs.  It is said a knife is like a Tiger.  That is hidden.  Though I think that a Sparrow should wear his knife at his belt.  If stone, and spells fail, they ought to have a method of defending themselves.

Sticks are more effective then swords.  They are easier to replace, and less likely to arouse suspicion.  One can walk with a stick where they cannot with a sword.  Indeed it is said that a person who is good with a bo staff can take a good swordsman.

Also, the Sparrow Shugendo should be like the Fox they should be given some combat training.  As they might be attacked if they are on the battle fied.  Though after the battle they ought to treat the wounded.

Perhaps the Kitsu, could even provide a tutor for the Leader of the Sparrow Clan.  So that he may have some training.  Also he may be able to provide them with some of his own tricks.

Day of the Sparrow

Perhaps the Day of the Sparrow should be held at the conclusion of the harvest.  In this way, it will be a time of celebration.  The migration of the Sparrow candiates can then be taken place.  As this would be less for the Sparrow to feed.  Also the returning Sparrow can then be given there swords.  They can be given a month off to be with their families, help with their families farm, train and learn some new techniques before going to their posts in other lands.  I think a Sparrow should get atleast a month off each year to be with his family, so that he can make sure their needs are taken care of.

Perhaps I was not ment to be a farmer.  As I've tried a test plot to grow some beans.  It hasnt' turned out all that great.  But perhaps I should have not put down that black plastic.  However it might go better next year.  Perhaps it would be better to invite the author of the One Straw Revolution himself to come to the Sparrow Lands.  He may be able to adapt his practices to the Sparrow Lands.  As I do not know if all his practices would work in different climates.  Perhaps this could be his next book.

Though I do think it would benifit the Sparrow to develop their own varieties of crops.  Perhaps a variety that would be better suited to the area.  It might also produce more crops.

Also perhaps the three best Sparrows at the Day of the Sparrow could be sent to the Tsurachi family.  As it would be best to send out best to represent the clan.  Then it would be less chance of bad relations with them.

Treaty with the Tsurachi Family

Perhaps it would be good for the Sparrow to make an alliance with the Tsurachi family.  For instance, Sparrow bushi may come in handy guarding the Wasp Nest.  Then the Tsurachi family can send out more of it's own to bounty.  The sling is similiar to the bow in that it's a longer distance weapon.  Also the bushi would come in handy at the keep, where long distance weapons may not be as affective.

Though perhaps for the Sparrow's service perhaps it would be best for their help in hunting down criminals.  Such as those who have tried to take my life.  As the Tsurachi are part of the Mantis clan, they are less likely to be attacked by another clan.

Also the Sparrow's help may come in handy in tracking down criminals.  For instance Sparrow's may see criminals as they travel in there service.  Or perhaps they may obtain information.  This may be of use to the Tsurachi family.

Perhaps the Sparrow should have a Day of the Sparrow.  In which those who wish to join the Vindicaton show how well they do with the sling.  If they do well then they can be part of the unit.

The Scorpion

Even though a Sparrow should never trust a Scorpion,
There may be times when dealing with them may be envetiable,
During these times,
Take extreme caution,
But give them no reason for trouble,

The Sparrow Lands

The Suzume should be like the mountain,
Unmoveable, and unconquerable,
My descendants should be like the wind around mountain,
They should either like a gentle breeze,
Or if the Suzume should be threatened like a hurricane,

The Twelve Sparrow

Perhaps the Shugendo of the Sparrow be part of the Twelve Sparrow.  That way, the Sparrow Daimyo can train them in his magic.  Then they can take this magic back to the Sparrow clan.  They can then form the core for a school around his practices.

One thing the Sparrow don't need

One thing the Sparrow dont' need,
Is another mouth to feed,
As the Sparrow Lands aren't that fertile,
The Duty of a Leader,
Is to look out for those under him,
So therefore the Leader of the Sparrow,
Should help feed those he leads,

More reasons to use peasant weapons

Another reason for training with peasant weapons is that one learns  the weakness of that weapon.  Swords have their place on the battlefield.  But one should know more than just one weapon.  For example, indoors an Katana is at a disadvantage since they may not have the room to wield it effectively.

Also other weapons may be appropriate then a katana.  Indeed a katana may become tainted in the Shadowlands.  A tetsubi may be better more effective against shadowland creatures.

A Sparrow's Sword ought to be like a Marine's Rifle.  They ought to be so precious that they will put up a fierce fight before they are taken from him or her.  A Sparrow should feel that NOTHING is worth losing their swords over.

Also, I think that they ought to know how to appy their kenjutsu techniques to other weapons as well.  I do not want them limiting themselves to swords.  One shouldn't always reach for their swords.  They must be open to other means of solving conflicts as well.

Alliance with the Crab

If the Lion do not wish to have an alliance from us, perhaps it would be better for us to have an alliance with the Crab.  As they are closer to the Sparrow lands.  Also they welcome anyone who would aid them.  While it may be best to stay seperate from them, an alliance may prove useful.

If we send out potential bushi out to aid the Hiruma, they may well reciprocate in an event of an attack on our lands.  As I respect the Crane, though I am wary of them.  An alliance with the Crab would act as a deteraint to any aggression on their part.

Also perhaps the Sparrow clan can produce works of art to show our support for the Crab clan.  I do admire their strength.  This would lead to better relations with them.  For example, while gifts of armor or weapons are an insult, supplying an army takes alot of funds.  Perhaps the Sparrow could make art items for their traveling packs.

The Sparrow bushi candiates could then bring these gifts to the Hiruma.  Being infront of the wall they must not get alot of supplies.  Sparrow art is known for it's ability to help focus the mind.  Our art may help take their minds off of their struggles.

I've seen rocks that were painted.  As the Sparrow lands have alot of rocks, perhaps the Sparrow clan could make use of this.  Perhaps, if nothing else the Crab could throw rock at their attackers.  Perhaps messages could be written on the rocks as well.  For example, it may be good to paint rocks with the Kami of Strength on them, as this is popular among the crab.  You never know, these rocks may prove quite useful.

Sparrow Shugendo

Whereas the Sparrow Lands have little resources, the Sparrow Shugendo should strive to make use of what little resources the Sparrow have.  I believe that I mentioned I think that the Sparrow Shugendo's should do Fertility Rites, during the growing season to help the crops of the Sparrow.  Also the Sparrow should pray for those serving in other lands.

I would like to sell the rights to my life story to make a burial ground for the honoring of Sparrow ancestors including my own.  Kind of like a smaller version of the Kitsu tombs.  Though I do not know how much my lifestory may bring.  It would be best if this was at the border of Sparrow Lands.  The bodies of ancestors could be stacked into a wall.  Then if the Sparrow Lands were attacked, the ancestors would help defend the wall.  Though I think this would be best by the Scorpion Lands.

As time goes on the Tombs can be added onto.  It may be best to plan this into the design.  Though I would like it to incorporate Yang style feng shui elements.  But that may be inapproapriate considering my ancestors were not chinese.  Though the building for them may be best not to incorporate Yang style Feng Shui as that is more suited to the nonliving.  Perhaps it would be best if the Shugendo quarters were hidden underground.

Perhaps a chamber ought to be dedicated to the Heroes of the Sparrow.  For instance, Suzume, and his aunt might be good to have statues.  Perhaps my statue may one day adorn it's hall.

If the Sparrow Lands are attacked, then they can defend the Tombs while reenforcements arrrive.  Perhaps using slings behind the thick walls.  Or hurling spells at their enemies.

Though perhaps it would be best to have a Sparrow Shugendo amongst the Sparrow Twelve.  Then the Sparrow Daimyo, and the Sparrow Shugendo can then train together in their arts.  Then the Sparrow could then train other students in Sparrow lands.  Starting as a study group, it may form into a school of it's own for the Sparrow.

I think it would be best if the Sparrow Shugendo trained here, and maintained the Tombs.  As the Fox Shugendo wield a wicked Nagomaki, so should the Sparrow Shugendo be known for their use of a sling.  As they might not be able to hide behind a bushi in battle.

Though, I think that to be a Sparrow Shugendo, a Sparrow must create a manifestation scroll.  A person is selected by the Sparrow Clan.  The potential Shugendo must then create a scroll that has things that come true using for that person.  This is not a favor to be traded lightly.  Though it may help to maintain the Tombs.

Also the Sparrow Shugendo should visit the Shrines of Family, and Vigilence if they are needed to be built.  Perhaps visiting them once a year to make and saying a prayer.  Also performing any needed maintaince work.

Though if I have a daughter, that she will take over this school.  I know she would be better treated amongst the Kitsu then I was being brought up.  Also she could learn about her true nature.

Though I do not approve of pacts with Spirits, pacts with animals are a different matter.  Personally, it may be good to make pacts with more then one animal.  Different animals have different strengths and weaknesses.  For example, cats are a natural predator to rodents.  Rodents spread disease, attack humans, eat crops.

Of the Ikoma

Of the Ikoma, I say this.  I do admire their library.  Although, I know the Sparrow do not have the funds to build a library nor would the paper survive in the climate, I do like the idea of a having a central deposit point for knowledge.

In the future, perhaps the Sparrow will be able to build a library under ground.  The climate underground might be more suitable for a library.  Perhaps, if funds become available in the future from the Sparrow's Service in other lands.  Perhaps under the Sparrow Clan Palace would be a suitable place.

It may well come in handy to help other clans as well.  Thought it might be best though it may be best for it not be advertised.  Though perhaps not as large or grand as the Ikoma's library we do not have much of a need for record keeping as do they.

The Fifth Level of the Sparrow Bushi School Technique

I think the Fifth level of the Sparrow Bushi School Technique should be The Three Essentials of Fire.  Like a fire, a person requires three things to survive.  They require air.  They require fuel (food).  Also they require heat.  Take any of these elements away, and a fire will go out.  So too will the fire within a person.

Perhaps the Sparrow clan should choose twelve sparrow to protect the Sparrow Daimyo.  These should not be the most experienced, nor them most talented.  Rather they should be choosen because they wish to experience the outside world.  As the most experienced are ought to guard the plains, as they may have less temption then younger bushi who have a family to raise.  Or the most talented who may be needed to guard the Sparrow borders.  Rather these Sparrow can bring back things to the Sparrow Lands.  Each month one will be given leave to return to Sparrow lands acting as a messanger between the Suzume, and the Sparrow Daimyo.  Also during this month they will be able spend with their families and can bring back things from them.  These bushi should not have a family of their own, so that they will not be abandoning their families.  Also they will be able to train with the Sparrow in the Sparrow lands, during this time and continue training in Sparrow Techniques.

As the Sparrow Daimyo travels with The Twelve Sparrow, he will be able to train with them.  Also they can help provide security for an popular entertainer.  As such they're wanderlust will be fulfulled.  Then they can return too Sparrow lands with the Pearl of Wisdom from the Muddy waters.  Then another Sparrow can be selected to replace the Sparrow.  Hopefully, they will be more experienced, and better able to serve their clan.

Perhaps, the Twelve Sparrow and The Sparrow Daimyo can also demonstrate Sparrow fighting techniques while they travel.  This way the Sparrow will learn about the outside world.  They may also be able to acquire some as well in their travels to bring back to the Sparrow clan.

Why fight with Peasant weapons ?

Why should a Sparrow fight with peasant weapons?  Firstly, a bushi will appreciate and care for his swords better that way.  The Sparrow should keep their swords safely tucked away, but ready to use at a moments notice. Secondly, the resources to create a Katana are alot.  The Sparrow do not have alot of resources.  Therefore, those who pass their time with the Hiruma should be given them.

Life as a Sparrow is hard.  Should not the ceremony also be?  We know that with hardship comes Wisdom.  Without wisdom, no matter how smart one is, they may cannot gain enlightment.

While others avoid hardship, we welcome it.  Others may grow soft, be we stay strong.  Therefore our clan will grow in stronger as time passes.

Three times a year

Three times a year during the growing season,
The Shugendo of the Sparrow,
Should perform a ferility rite,
So that the crops shall grow better,
Though the area should be marked with a Large Stone carved with the Sparrow mon,
So that any visiting Shugendo know about it,

Level 4 technique of the Sparrow clan

I think that the Level four technique of the Sparrow clan bushi technique is Fuel of the Fire.  Basically, when a Sparrow whenever is angered they will direct that anger into there actions.  Allowing them to perform at a level that they would normally not be able to.  In that the, anger is the Fuel of the fire, it is what gives the technique it's name.

Another idea for the Sparrow banner

Greetings,

Here is another idea for the Sparrow banner.

"The Crane clan is not the only clan who's art is deadly in any form."

Perhaps the Sparrow, The Fox, and the Hair should form an alliance

I've had my fill of bloodspeakers,
The Fox do not tolerate taint on their lands,
And it is the Hares duty to hunt the bloodspeakers,
So perhaps we all can find common ground and have an alliance,
Stronger we would be together then seperate,
We would be like an Eagle swooping down on our prey,

Be wary a Scorpion one always should

Beware the man who gives his voice to one man,
And his actions to another,
I have had my fill of their Treachery,
They have a history of attacking minor clans,
Even when they have had an alliance with them,
So beware the Scorpion,
For it's their nature to sting,

Sparrow Clan banner

Other clans have banners, I think it would be good if the Sparrow did too.  Perhaps this would be fitting:
"If they don't respect our sweat, our art, our stories, they will respect our prowess in battle if they live that long."

The nature of the Sparrow

The Sparrow spreads it's numbers thin,
As it knows it's best to not exhaust the territory within,
While not as large as other birds,
It makes up for it in sheer numbers,

Dont' be afraid of cursed places

Don't be afraid of the places that are cursed,
Carry salt with you to absorb dark energies,
Let the purity of our chi cleanse the land,
We are Sparrow we can survive where others cannot,

As the Sparrow...

As the Hiruma,
Are wind around,
The Hida Mountain,
So should the Sparrow,
Be the Wind around the Minor Clans,

The Worth of a Person

A worth of a person,
Should not be in what they do,
The worth of a person,
Ought to be their heart,

Statue of the Sparrow

I'm working on a new form.  I call it Statue of the Sparrow.  Though it will not emphasis balance as much as the Statue of the Crane.

This is intentional.  First I don't have very good balance.  However, as the Sparrow is a smaller animal it doesn't need as much balance as a crane.  Though I think the Sparrow would be more aerobic.  As it would need less time to take off then a Crane.  It would do alot more dives attacks.

Perhaps it would be best to be like the Chinese wall form.  So that Sparrows could practice it along the wall.  Then the Sparrows will not get rusty.

I think though it should be highly encouraged for the Sparrow to learn this form.  Also I think it's best not to care what other clans think of the Sparrow.  Better to focus the energy on one's training.  Channel your anger to work harder.  After one should not correct another's misconceptions.  It will be all the more easier to surprise them.

Also I want to make a form of using the Sling.  Though I will have to learn to use it first.  The Sling should be to the Sparrow as the Bow is to the Tsurachi family.

One tactic I think might go well would be to use it on a wall.  After all if Sparrows can send a volley of stones at an enemy, it might be quite useful.  It would make things all the harder to breach the wall.  Even if the enemy isn't killed, it will wear them down to more easily cut them down with swords.  After all, the enemies tend to be quite large.  It should be that difficult to find a weak spot in the armor to exploit.

The priests of my descendants

The priests of my descendants should train with the Fox,
I much approve of the combat training for Shugendo,
Also with the Kitsu,
As the Kitsu will train with those who show ability,
Perhaps it would best if my daughter went to train with the Kitsu,
As she has already show the ability,

Until we have the resources

Until we have the resources to create our own Merchant Marine school,
Our courtiers should train in the Tortiose,
Though I would like to see more emphasis on commerce then deception,
As it is more fitting for a sparrow,
Perhaps also training with the Mantis Courtiers,

The Second family of the Sparrow

Perhaps the Sparrow should have a second family,
The Suzume, should farm and guard the Sparrow lands,
Where as the Suibuerulingu, should seek service in other lands,
Where as the Ikoma are either Bards or Historians,
The Suibuerulingu, should either be Shugendo, or Privateers,
Both will be known for their Healing Prowess they will be,
For formadible, a fighting force they will be where they know how to heal themselves,
The Shugendo, of the family should practice spirit healings as well as conventional healings,
Using their manifestation magic they will,
Perhaps in the time, we will be strong enough to aid the Tortoise,
Though in times of peace we should be content to farm the sea,

The Scorpion

It is best to avoid the Scorpion,
Best not to make war with them,
But do not correct their misconceptions,
If they operate under them, who are we to correct them,
But watch the Scorpion carefully from a safe distance,
Study them,
Do not give them any opportunity for attack,

The Crane are to be admired

The Crane are to be admired,
For their prowess in Dueling,
For their skill in battle,
For their art,
For their skill at the negotiating table,
For that they are to be admired,

But do not let them fool you,
Do not let them deceive you,
For their's is not the only clan who's art is deadly in any form,
We know that with hardship comes wisdom,
Do not give your word often, or thoughtlessly,
Let your yes be yes, and your no be no,

The Scorpion

Where as one should avoid dueling the Crane Kenshizen,
A Sparrow should take every opportunity to duel the Scorpion,
I think they're heads would make a great gift for the Lion Champion, or perhaps the Tsurachi family,
How embarressing it would be for a great clan to lose to such an little one like the Sparrow,
Then if they do ever attack us,
Their numbers will be dimished,

The Kenshizen of the Crane Clan

The Kenshizen of the Crane clan are to be respected but not feared,
I will not challenge them,
Indeed they are better swordsmen then I may ever be,
But if challenged I will win, they will not,
Beware they should of a man who nothing to lose,
For he may do things they may not have considered in there measure,

The Sling

The Sling is to the Sparrow,
As the Bow is to the Wasp,
It's best to use it to maximum effect,

The Sparrow can not stay isolated

I truly believe that Sparrow cannot stay isolated in their lands from the rest of the worlds.  First of all we must know what dangers are out there.  It will not do be be like an ostrich with it's head in the sand.  We cannot simply ignore the world.

Personally, I think it would be an advantage to have an alliance with the Lion.  The Crane found it convenient to have an alliance with the Wasps who were on the Lion and Scorpion border.  So it would be convenient for the Lion to have an alliance with the Sparrow who border the Scorpion, and Lion lands.

Another thing is that if the Sparrow were to choose a Daiymo of their clan who had been adopted into the Lion clan, it would present a shift in policy.  First off, it would be an honor for the Lion clan since one of theirs was choosen to lead the clan.  Also, it would signal a greater alliance with the Lion.

Though I must say I do admire the Crane Harriers.  Though I don't think the Sparrow should engage in sabotage.  Since we are a small clan we have to face the fact that we very well may be outnumbered in battle.

When in the Village of Reinstated Hero

Whenever a Sparrow is in Lion's lands, I think they should make it a point to visit the shrine at the Village of the Reinstated Hero.  It might be good to say a prayer there.  As Sparrow know of Bushido as well as any Lion.

Also I think it would be best if the Sparrow Bushi learned more then one school.  For example, it might be best for Sparrow Bushi to train in Toku Bushi school as well as Sparrow Kenjutsu.  After all, Sparrows are likely to find themselves outnumbered in battle.  If they be shugendo, I think it best to train in the Kitsune Shugenja School, and the Kasuga Courtier School.

Thought perhaps it would be good to study the fighting style in the lands one is helping to defend.  For example, if stationed in Crane lands, study in the Crane Shugendo school.  If in Phoenix lands, study in their Bushi School.  This way, it would lead to better cohesiveness in battle as we would be able understand how to work with our allies.

It is said that one's life does not consist of their possesions.  So therefore, one should focus on their training.  After all as soldier does not engage in civilian affairs.

Though I would like to see the Sparrow Shugendo train with the Kitsu.  Perhaps they couldn't learn Soden-senzu abilities.  Perhaps it may be to train as combat mages.  After all in battle, Sparrow Shugendo will not have as many forces.  Then after the battle they can treat the wounded.

Though, I think there should be no retreat, no surrender, there is a difference between an tactical withdrawal.  Once one's objectives have been completed it's best to withdraw instead of losing additional forces.  The Sparrow cannot afford to have there clan members throw away there lives.

Though I say this of the Crane, I like their strategy of Dueling enemy officers during battle.  Even if a enemy officer could only be weakened, it would make him less effective, and demoralize his troops.  Therefore, it's best to this as much as possible, and avoid all or nothing battles.

When anyone says they didn't think

When anyone says to you that they didn't think,
They are correct,
They didn't think,

Then you know,
That what they say,
Doesn't really matter,

So watch a person's words,
For clues,
Let this be your guide,

Before a Sparrow can marry

There is a story of King Arthur and his court.  Sir Gwain wanted a Lady.  King Arthur, presented Sir Gwain three women, a young infant, a scrub woman, and a old woman.  He said to Sir Gwain, "When you can serve on of these woman like you could serve one of the ladies of the court, then you deserve one."

LIkewise before a Sparrow should marry and start his own family, I think they should demonstrate this virtue.  He ought to be able ot serve a woman without expectation of any reward.  Then he will be ready to raise a family.  After all how will he care for a wife and family if he can not take care of one woman?

Perhaps Sparrows should be married at the Shrine of Family when it is built.  It would certainly be appropriate.  They then can take there vows there infront of a priest.

In the event of an attack

Perhaps in the event of an attack, it would be to send woman and children to safety.  While the men engaged in Guerilla warfare against the invader.  It would be hard for an enemy to maintain a force on Sparrow lands.  It would best use the terrain against the invader.

It would be best not to meet an invading army head on.  As the chances for a winning would not be very likely.  Therefore, in the event of an attack the Sparrow should form into independant squads spread out through out it's territory.  Then the Sparrow, should harrass the enemy till they leave their lands.  If there is an overwhelming force, take one out then leave.  If this is continually done, the enemy forces will be decimated.

I think it best if the Sparrow never attack, they ought to only act in self-defense.  The Sparrow do not have the military power to engage in a campaign on another clan's soil.  Likewise, any invader's on Sparrow land should be given no mercy.  Afterall to be displaced could mean the our deaths or the deaths of our clansmen.  Why should we have any mercy on those who would show us none.  There bodies should then put on pikes on the entrance to Sparrow lands.  They will serve as a warning to those who would attack us.  An opponent without honor, deserves none.

While the Sparrow harass the enemy other clans might find it convenient time to expand there territory on the other front.  For example, the Lion clan way wish to take over the defense of territory bordering there lands.  the enemy would then have to fight on two fronts.  Which would not be a favorable position for them.  I think it would be good for the Sparrow to have a relationship to the Lion like that of the Dragonfly clan to the Dragon clan.

Also the Sparrow as they are serving in other lands way wish to take careful note of any Scorpion activity in the area.  As it best to keep an eye on the Scorpion.  Though, the Sparrow are not powerful enough to challenge the Scorpion, it is best for the Sparrow to stay out of their way.

Shrines

Personally, I think that the Sparrow should build two shrines.  Perhaps with rocks in the area.  On it should say "Never trust a Scorpion."  One too Vigilence, and another to Family.  The Vigilence shrine will be on the entrance to the Sparrow Crab lands.  As Sparrow travel on the road, they should stop and say a prayer.

Another shrine should be constructed in Kudo.  It should say, "A home is where a man's family is."  It should made in a similiar manner as the Vigilence shrine.   Sparrows should stop and say a prayer.

Using dishes

I saw this:
http://english.aljazeera.net/news/asia-pacific/2010/05/20105272038544939.html

And it gave me an idea.  Perhaps bunch of satellite dishes could be used to get access in remote areas to the internet.  For example, instead of using one very large dish one could use a bunch of smaller dishes.  This might help in more remote areas get more reliable access to the internet.

Strategy

Personally, I think it would be best to split up any Ronin who join our ranks.  That way the chance of them revolting is less.  Also I think that Sparrow's who have completed their Gempukku ceremony be given preference as far as leadership positions go.  While experienced Ronin might be able to command small groups, I think the majority of the command should be in Sparrow Bushi hands.

Also I think that Sparrow clan's Vindicators should wear no flags.  They will only wear the Sparrow mon on their uniform.  This will distinguish them from other units.  A simple uniform is best.  Also they should be kept from Sparrow lands for example sent to stationed to guard other clans lands.  Only once they have proven there loyalty to the clan should they be allowed on Sparrow lands.  I think the Vindicators should train defending the Kaiu wall.
Perhaps after they have proven themselves, they can be stationed elsewhere.  For example, perhaps Sparrows should train with the monks of Shinden Osano-Wan.  Then the Sparrows can help to care for the temple, and defend it if necessary.  Perhaps the monks and Sparrows could exchange fighting techniques.

It would be better for the Sparrow to operate in small numbers spread out rather then a concentrated force.  As such a force would require more food.  Also if a few groups of Sparrow were taken out, the rest would still be around.  However, if they were all in one place and the entire force could be eliminated.

Once a Sparrow graduates there Gempukku, they could be put in charge of a group of small ronin.  Then they could be sent out to do service in another land.  That way, the ronin would act as a force multiply for the Sparrow.  Eventually, the Ronin could be adopted into the Sparrow clan.

Perhaps

Personally, I think a couple should have only two children in their household at a time.  Any more ought to be sent to stations out outside of Sparrow lands, and return only briefly for visits.  They could also bring organic matter to increase the fertility of the Sparrow lands such as compost.  Also they could bring back gifts for their family.  As such the entire clan will benifit from their service.

Perhaps Sparrow's Gempukku would be to defend the Kaiu wall for a year with the Hiruma Scouts.  Before they were sent to the Hiruma they would receive a blessing by a priest.  During this time they were with the Hiruma peasant weapons to fight such as the sling.  Their relatives should gather while they are doing this to have a prayer vigil.  Upon they're return they will be given a ritual cleansing to help cleanse them of any taint they picked up in with the Hiruma.  Then they would be presented their swords.  Then sent to their stations.

Perhaps the Dragon clan could use Sparrow Bushi to defend the Northern Towers of Flame.  Additional bushi would be useful there to them.  The Dark Oracle after all keeps sending his minions there.  Perhaps the sparrow could setup a base with the Ronin at Nanashi Mura, for helping to defend the Northern Towers.

Perhaps the Sparrow could staion troops at Oiku.  Then if they would move with Lion clan to defend Toashi Ranbo if necessary.  Then the Lion will have more bushi on there side.  Also Sparrow bushi could be stationed at the Kitsu Tombs.  If the Tsuno attack they may prove most useful.  Also they could help in minor duties.     Perhaps some Sparrow's could be snet to Ninkatoshi.  They may prove useful in an event of an attack.  Also Sparrow stationed at Toshi No Meiyo Gisei would be useful in an Tsuko attack.  Another place that Sparrows could be stationed is Shiranai Toshi as they could help provide order.  Foshi could also use the Sparrow to against the Phoenix and Tsuko.  Shiro No Yojin may have need of Sparrow to maintain the estate, as well as defend it should the need arise.  Also Sparrow's could be stationed at Beiden's Overlook.  However, only the most experience Sparrow bushi would assigned here.  Perhaps the Sparrow and Fox could station some bushi at Rengai Torid-e and Kokoru Nezuban Mori.  Wood is a needed commodity to the Lion Armies, and Foxes are some best woodsmen in Rokugan.

Works of art could be sent to Shiro Akodo as a good will gesture.  Perhaps the Lion would let the Sparrow use Shiro Shimazu in exchange for their service.

Perhaps the Sparrow could station Bushi at Kitomihari.  If the Yobanjin tribes are amassing for war they may prove useful.  Also Sparrow bushi could be stationed at Zumiki-mihari as well.  Perhaps Sparrow bushi training with the Phoenix could be stationed here or completing there obligations.  Then

Perhaps the Unicorn could use Sparrow bushi stationed at the Watchtower facing the River of the Unexpected Hero.  Incase of a Shadow clans assualt they may prove useful.  The sparrow could also do combat maneuvers with the Unicorn.

Perhaps Yasuki Hachi could use Sparrow's to maintain his estate.  They could also help defend the castle in an event of an attack.  Then the Sparrow's may be of use to him.

Perhaps the Sparrow could build a port and a Sparrow Merchant Marine Academy built at Kiken and Roka/Ryu Bannin Toshi.  The descendants of a child who gave a dragon a riceball, may wish to join the Sparrow clan.  But first sufficient funds must be acquired.  The Turtle, and Mantis ships could be given access to this port.  Also the Lion, Phoenix, and Crane, may find it convenient to have a market for their products.  The Merchant Marine fleet could practice aquaculture.  Also excess food could be sold fish could be sold to the highest bidder.  Perhaps the Sparrow's could use the Imperial Storehouses that stand empty to store fish in.  Perhaps special permission would be needed for this I do not know.  But I indeed think it a waste that they stand empty.  Perhaps the Crane would like more defenders for Kosaten Shiro.  The Sparrow clan could station bushi there.  Perhaps if exchange for providing bushi the crane may help build an school there.  Also the Mantis may find it useful to have Sparrow bushi at Kyuden Ashinagachi afterall the Scorpion still hold great hostility there towards the Mantis.  Perhaps they too they could help build a school there.

The Tsi and the Yotsu

Perhaps it would be good in a few of the Sparrow apprenticed wth the Tsi.  Then they could come back to the Sparrow lands and make items for the Sparrow.  Excess items could then be traded to the Crab.  These items could be traded to the Crab.

Perhaps the Yotsu may might well want some help guarding Otosan Uchi.  Perhaps, the Sparrow clan and the Yotsu could make an agreement.  Perhaps provide station bushi at Otosan Uchi to aid them.  Perhaps training with them as well while they are there.

Perhaps also the Crane might wish to have another market for their food.  Perhaps the Sparrow could be a potential market for their products.  This might help to increase the koku in their coffers.

Twin Towers

I think it may be wise to construct twin towers at each entrance to Sparrow Lands.  Each would be small, with a gate attached.  This way, a guard could see what approached.  Also this could provide cover to guard.

This would help to "discourage" those who would attack Sparrow Lands.  Also perhaps the guards would be able to stop or at least slow down an attack from an invading force.  That would give the Sparrow enough time to rally a force to counter the force.  Perhaps even a drawbridge.

Also perhaps the Sparrow could send a trade delegation once a year to Nagai Aruki with art from the Sparrow clan.  This could provide money to build the defenses.  Though I think it might be better to build as funds allow rather then going into debt.

Perhaps the ronin who hold Daidoji Yukan-se would like to join the Sparrow clan.  While not as strong as the Crane, the Sparrow do share a common heritage.  They haven't been able to gain entry into the Crane clan anyway.

Treaty with the Crab

Personally, I think it would be a good idea for the Sparrow Clan to make a treaty with the Crab clan.  This treaty will be that the Sparrow clan will have it's youths as part of it's Gempukku ceremony defend the Kaiu wall for a year.  They can then learn lessons in defense of the Kaiu wall.  After which they would be considered adults.  They would get there swords before they left, then upon there return would be given a party in there honor.

Also I would like to raise up a unit to be stationed to guard the Kaiu wall permantly.  This unit would be made up of those who have lost their honor unjustly.  They would regain their honor by joining this unit and guarding the Kaiu wall.

There are several reasons why this would be a good idea.  The first is to that the Lands of the Sparrow are not very fertile.  Therefore the land can't support a large population at present.  By helping to defend the Kaiu wall, it will also put less strain on the land.  Secondly, it will increase the Sparrow clan's recognition.  Thirdly, it will let the young people experience life outside of the Sparrow's Lands.

My thoughts on homes

Personally, I would like to see a combination of an Earthship and the Simondale house.  Earthships can be built in colder climates.  However, the windows will have to be doubled paned, as to prevent heat loss.  Also I do not know if the skylight would work in this climate.  Everyone I have heard about has leaked.

I would like to see small bedrooms, enough to hold a bed, a closet, and a dresser.  Then larger community rooms.  This would help to bring a sense of community to the home.  As the family would spend more time together rather then in there own rooms.  Also a bedroom should be used for sleeping.  If one uses it for other things then it's harder to get a good nights rest.

Also, one big advantage of a Earthship is there are virtually no mainteence costs.  This would help to defray the increased labor.  However, perhaps neighors could get together and help with the construction.  This too would aid in the community building.

Also I know that plants can be grown in the winter not as fast.  This is usually done in a greenhouse.  This should help supply fresh fruits and vegetables to the household along with dehydrated fruits and vegetables saved from the main harvest.

The essence of the Sparrow

The Crab have their Jade,
The Phoenix their spells,
The Lion their honor,
But all a Sparrow needs is his nest,

The Quality of the Soil

The quality of the soil is of primary importance.  After all when a societies soil declines so does it.  Therefore, the soil must be guarded, it must be disturbed as little as possible.

One way this maybe accomplished is by planting wind brakes in windy areas.  Windbreaks consist of a fast growing tree such as a pine.  Then a slower growing tree perhaps an oak.  In this way, the faster growing tree will shelter the slower growing tree.  Then the wind erosing will be cut down.

Building buildings under the ground is another way to protect the soil.  This will increase the land that can be used for agriculture.  For example, buildings underground are less exposed to the elements.

Also water flowing off of roof's most be avoided.  It would be better if this water was collected into an underground cistern for later use.  This would of course have to be filtered.  However, it would help to conserve water.

Also trails ought to be used as much as possible.  Whenever one walks on soil it causes erosion, so it's better to walk on a trail or sidewalk instead.  The less trails there are the more soil will stay in better shape.

Instead of pulling weeds out which disturbs the soil apply more mulch.  Mulch however should not be confused with compost.  As compost is for improving the soil, whereas mulch is to control weeds.

The soil can be improved by adding compost.  For example, one can save organic matter from the kitchen.  One should not however use meet or dairy.  Also, it is best to let this organic matter compost for 18 months atleast before applying it to the soil.  This will help make sure that there aren't patheogens.

Inaddition, there are solar composting toilets.  However, one should use a separate toilet for urine as the combination smells.  After a year, this could be used to help improve the soil.

Negotiation

First ask,
That you may be given,
Then exchange,
That you may give back,
Then find out what he most desires,
